U.S.-Thailand
Treaty of Amity
The
Treaty of Amity and Economic Relations, which allows U.S and Thai
companies economic access to each other's markets, has facilitated
strong economic ties between the United States and Thailand. The
treaty exempts U.S. businesses from most of the restrictions on
foreign investment imposed by the Alien Business Law, which regulates
the scope of foreign participation in Thai business activities.
It also allows American companies to maintain a majority shareholding
or to wholly own its own branch or representative office located
in Thailand. Individuals or companies wishing to invoke the treaty
must apply to the other country's government and prove their nationality.
