of the Mara
The
Buddha's victory over desire and sin is one of the most prevalent themes in
Thai art.
While meditating, the Buddha taps on the ground to call Mother Earth to witness his resistance to the earthly desires of the Mara.
Seeing his resistance, Mother Earth wrings out her hair causing a flood which destroys the demons of desire.
