Slaying
of Sama
Murals
were originally painted during the early Bangkok period, a time when literacy
among the common people was rare.
With temple murals, lay people no longer had to be able to read to understand the stories of the Buddha. Everyone knew, for instance, that the deer and the archer depicted in this mural related the story of the slaying of Sama and the moral of selfless devotion.
