adds 1,000-page travel section The Nation

BANGKOK
(The Nation) - Web portal Thailand.com, which is managed by Thai Portal,
a subsidiary of the Nation Group, has launched a travel section targeting
Thai and foreign tourists and designed to promote Thai tourism worldwide.
"Thailand.com
has continuously improved its information and services to ensure that Thailand
is widely known abroad, to promote thai exports and travel businesses,
and to increase their opportunities for doing business, in the global market,"
said Thanachai Theerapatvong, chairman and CEO of Thai Portal and Nation
Multimedia Group, publisher of The Nation.
More than
1,000 Web pages of travel information, including destinations for tourists,
maps, essential tourism information, special tips, information on adventure
tourism, and lists of hotels, resorts and restaurants, are available on
the site.
"Thailand.com
has launched this channel in response to high demand expeted from tourists
this travel season and to promote Thailand tourism to tourists around the
world," said Sermsin Samalapa, president and chief operating officer
of Thai Portal.
Tourists
from Thailand and around the world can book hotels and create customized
package tours on Thailand.com. Partners that include leading travel agencies
and tourism operators, including the car rental firm Budget.
Thai Portal
will spend Bt20 million to promote the site as the gateway to information
on Thailand and greater Southeast Asia. The campaign will be conducted
through electronic and print media and on billboards.
Thailand.com
also features an export section with detailed information for Thai manufacturers.
The site
was officially launched in June, and already receives more than 300,000
hits a day. Most visitors are non-Thai, with Americans accounting for about
70 percent.
"The
total revenue of Web hosting in Thailand.com's export section is now at
Bt40 million. We expect this figure to reach Bt300 million by the middle
of next year." Sermsin said.
