November 27, 2000
BANGKOK
(The Nation) - Thailand.com, a subsidiary of Nation Multimedia Group and
US-based MeetChina.com, announced the formation of a joint venture today
aimed at giving Thai exporters a means to trade with overseas buyers via
the Internet. Thailand.com already operates a channel for exporters and
the alliance with MeetChina.com, operator of China's leading ecommerce
cross-border trade portal, will enable Thai suppliers to offer their goods
globally using online tools to manage every aspect of cross border trade,
from promotion to delivery of products.
"We
are very excited about partnering one of the leading local online portals.
Thailand.com's strong local operations, relationship with local trade service
partners and experience in marketing to exporters will give our new venture
an upper hand in becoming one of the most successful business-to-business
(B2B) sites," said Len Cordiner, MeetChina's chief executive.
Based in
San Francisco with operations throughout Asia, MeetChina.com operates China's
largest B2B site.
Thanachai
Theerapatvong, Thailand.com's chairman and chief executive, said that the
company's venture with MeetChina.com would make the group a domestic leader
in the import/export market. "We will be the most comprehensive export
portal. The site will make Thai products accessible to a large global customer
base," he said, adding exporters would be able to trade online with
the site's key features facilitating negotiation, logistics, insurance,
inspection, payment and customs clearance.
