Travel
section of thailand.com launched
October 2, 2000
Thai
web portal thailand.com, which is managed by Thai Portal, a subsidiary
of the Nation Group, has launched its travel info section, targeting
both Thai and foreign tourists and designed to promote Thai tourism
worldwide.
Chairman
and CEO of Nation Multimedia Group and Thai Portal, Thanachai Theerapatvong,
said: "thailand.com has continuously improved its information
and services to ensure Thailand is widely known abroad, to promote
Thai export and travel businesses, and to increase their opportunities
for doing business in the global market."
More
than 1,000 web pages of travel information, covering destinations
for tourists, maps, information that tourists must know, special
tips, adventure tourism, and lists of hotels, resorts and restaurants
are available now on thailand.com.
The
president and COO of Thai Portal, Sermsin Samalapa, said: "thailand.com
has launched this channel in response to the high demand expected
from tourists this travel season and to promote Thailand-based tourism
to tourists around the world."
Tourists
from Thailand and every other part of the world can book hotels
online and create customised package tours on thailand.com. The
site is supported by allies that include leading travel agencies
and specialists such as vehicle rental firm Budget.
Thai
Portal will spend 20 million baht on promoting thailand.com through
various channels - including electronic media, print media and billboards
- so as to let it be known in Thailand and worldwide that this portal
is the gateway to information on Thailand and greater Southeast
Asia.
As
well as promoting Thai tourism to a global market, thailand.com
also features an export section with a complete range of information
so that Thai manufacturers can export, and invest abroad, successfully.
Thailand.com
was officially launched in June. There are between 20,000 to 30,000
visitors and 300,000 hits a day. Most visitors to the site are non-Thai
with nationals of the US making up about 70% of the audience on
any given day.
Mr
Sermsin said: "The total revenue of web hosting in thailand.com's
export section is now at 40 million baht. We expect this figure
to reach 300 million baht by the middle of next year.
"Besides
an outstanding domain name, highly-qualified executives, and top-quality
content, we boast online experts and keen investors as the allies.
I would go so far as to say that thailand.com has all the qualifications
it needs to become the most used information and service portal
in regional Southeast Asia.
"Moreover,
thailand.com will soon offer many new services, including free e-mail."
