The fertile central plains region
of Thailand has attracted peoples and empires down the ages. The
area displays a complex intermixing of architectural styles from
different periods, races and kingdoms. In spite of the diversity
of these influences, the architectural styles most distinctive to
the central region are undoubtedly those of the kingdoms of Ayutthaya
and the most recent Rattanakosin era.
