The
Thai people have always had a passion for music and song.
Traditional Thai music is quite unique and cannot be found
anywhere else in the world. Its exotic and wondrous sounds
captivate and sometimes confound the listener. Not unlike
western sounds, Thai music has several styles representative
of different regions of the country.
Thailand's
musical styles include Thai classical music, folk songs and
local or regional music. Specific songs and instruments are
used for social gatherings and events such as festivals, marriages,
funerals, folk theaters, post-harvest songs, traditional sports,
etc. The music is closely related to the life and work of
the people.
Folk
music ranges from the essential to the boisterously syncopated
and varies from region to region. In contrast to Thai classical
music, folk songs usually feature merry and witty repartees.
