Birdwatching in Chiang Mai green forestIn this region alone, there are more than 400 species of birds especially during the winter months, such as hornbills and cranes. Also, there is a wide diversity of mammals; for example, Asiatic black bear, deer and langurs. The flora of this part of Thailand is very diverse, too, lichens, rare orchids and many other tropical cool climate plants can be found among the misty forested hills of the North; some species cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

There are several companies in Chiang Mai that offer bird watching trips which are often combined with other eco activities such as trekking.
