Bird Watching at Mangrove Forests

Although primarily known for the limestone karst topography of its shoreline, Krabi is nonetheless home to a broad spectrum of ecological environments, making it one of the most diverse areas in the region. One of the most unique eco-systems found in Krabi are the mangrove forests, which play a key role in maintaining the ecological balance of the entire area. In additon, these mangrove forests provide shelter to several species of birds, and are thus a terrific place for bird watching. Two of the prevalent species of birds are the sea eagle and the ruddy kingfisher, both of which can be seen year round. Bird watching trips can be arranged at the Chao Fah pier in Krabi, and usually cost about 200 baht per hour, for boat rental.
