Rafting along Pai River

Rafting along Pai RiverThe Pai River is the biggest and longest river in Mae Hong Son with an approximate length of 180 km, an average width of 30 m and average depth of 7 m. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, there are three primary locations recommended for rafting.

1) From the river source to Pai -
Starting from Huai Chang Kaeo, 16 km from Pai district to Wiang Nua Bridge or Ban Chomphon near Pai. This excursion takes about 6 hours.

2) From Pai to Mae Hong Son -
Starting from Ban Mo Paeng, 30 km from Pai district, to Ban Pang Mu in Mae Hong Son city. With a total distance of 70 km, this excursion takes between two and five days depending on water level. Officials at the Pai District Office provide more information of this route.

Rubber Rafting3) From Mae Hong Son to the Thai-Myanmar border -
Starting from Ban Huai Dua of Tambon Pha Bong, about 6 km from Mae Hong Son city, to the border at Ban Nam Phiang Din. The best time to raft is between October and March and arrangements should be made with travel agencies in Mae Hong Son at least two days in advance. Due to this areas beautiful natural surroundings, tourists are often encouraged to cruise along by long-tailed motorboat, and then take a 2-3 hour elephant trip back to Mae Hong Son.
