Bird watching at Mu Ko Similan National Park

Brahminy kiteThe Similan Islands are perfect spots for bird watching in the Andaman Sea. On the ninth island there are 32 bird species including resident birds such as the Brahminy kite and the white-breasted waterhen. The islands are the sanctuary of the pintail snipe, grey wagtail, cattle egret, watercock and the roseate tern. Visitors can make trekking trips at Ko Miang in the archipelago. Nicobar pigeon or the hairy-legged mountain land crab can be easily sighted while venturing around the interior of the mangrove jungle.

The wildlife inhabiting the national park includes the bush-tailed porcupine, common palm civet, flying lemur and bottlenosed dolphin. There are plenty of reptiles and amphibian species including the banded krait, reticulated python, white-lipped pit viper, common pit viper, hawksbill turtle, leather turtle, Bengal monitor lizard, common water monitor lizard and ornate froglet.
