Khao Sok Rainforest

On the mainland, only a few hours from Phuket in Surat Thani, is Khao Sok Rainforest. Khao Sok National Park is a verdant jungle with complex mountain ranges and rugged high cliffs. The park contains considerable wildlife including elephants, bantengs, tapirs, bison, bears, and black panthers. Many kinds of rare wildlife are still to be found within the area of some 161,000 acres. Khao Sok is eminent for its native rainforest and spectacular karst cliffs. It is also home to the rare rafflesia flower, locally known as 'buah phut', with blooms measuring almost 80 cm in diameter.

Some spots within the park are really worth a visit. You can explore most of the attractions on foot, and there are a number of very well maintained trails for hiking. Rare flora and fauna can be found along the nature trails. In addition, you can enjoy rafting or canoeing adventures in the park.

Look for eco-tourism in other provinces.
