Bird
watching at Khao Sok National Park
Bird
watching is an interesting activity in the sanctuary where
you can observe over 70 bird species. Its an area of 403,450
rai covered by a large rainforest jungle. The park encompasses
breath-taking limestone mountains, towering cliffs, a clear
reservoir, and lovely waterfalls.
The
national park has hiking trails for trekking into a rainforest
jungle which is one of Thailand's best preserved habitats
for tropical plants and wildlife. It is a home to tigers,
clouded leopards, Malaysian sun bears, elephants, gaur and
many other rare species. Several rare plants including Palm
Lang Kao and Bua Phud are to be found within the park. Bua
Phud or rafflesia flower blossoms every November until January.
The trails lead to caves where you can experience the natural
formations of beautiful stalactite and stalagmite. Another
recommended activity is to explore the unspoiled jungles on
elephant back.
The
park office is 1.3 km off Highway 401 (Surat Thani - Takuapa)
at Km 109. Dormitory and camping facilities are available
through advance booking. One can make a reservation through

Near the area of the park there are privately run bungalows
available for tourists.
