Bird watching at Nhong Thung Thong Wildlife Sanctuary

BirdNhong Thung Thong is a great spot for bird lovers as the sanctuary is home to over 70 bird species. These birds mostly migrate from freezing climates to escape from the cold weather. The peak season when numerous species of birds gather in the sanctuary is during October and March. It was designated a wildlife sanctuary in December 1985. The sanctuary covers almost 18,475 rai, and encompasses basins separated by several swamps. There are five major swamps for the birds and water animals inhabiting the sanctuary. The largest is Nhong Thung Thong with an area of 2,500 rai. The most familiar residents to found within the sanctuary include monkeys, chevrotains, otters, jungle fowls, civet cats, and mongoose.

One can use the Surat Thani - Na Sahn route or Highway 4009. At Km 18 make a right to enter the Asia highway. You get to the sanctuary after another six km.
