Camping
at Khao Sok National Park
Camping
facilities are available in Khao Sok in western Surat Thani.
It is an area of 403,450 rai covered by a large rainforest.
The park encompasses breath-taking limestone mountains, towering
cliffs, a clear reservoir, and lovely waterfalls.
The
national park has hiking trails for trekking into the jungle,
which is one of Thailand's best preserved habitats for tropical
plants and wildlife. It is a home to tigers, clouded leopards,
Malaysian sun bears, elephants, gaur and many other rare species.
Bird watching is another interesting activity in the sanctuary
where you can observe over 70 bird species. Several rare plants
including Palm Lang Kao and Bua Phud are to be found within
the park. Bua Phud or rafflesia flower blossoms every November
until January. The trails lead to caves where you can experience
the natural formations of beautiful stalactite and stalagmite.
Another recommended activity is to explore the unspoiled jungles
on elephant back. One
can make a reservation through the Forestry Department, tel
+66 2 579 0529, or 579 4842.
