New Year's Day, 1 January. Bangkok has more than its fair share of thrills and excitement at New Year, but without the cold weather.

Ploughing Ceremony. One of the most ancient of eastern ceremonies to usher in the annual rice-planting season. A colorful event, full of pomp and pageantry.

August
HM Queen Sirikit's Birthday, 12 August. A nationwide celebration of love for Queen Sirikit, the mother of the nation.

October
Chulalongkorn Day, 23 October. This public holiday is held in remembrance of King Rama V, who abolished slavery and maintained Siamese sovereignty during the period of European colonialism.

Thai Beer Festival, October-November. With the arrival of cooler weather, the country's brewers set up their stalls to transform Bangkok into one big beer garden.

November
Golden Mount Fair. A cultural fair and charming lamp-light procession up the slopes of Bangkok's Golden Mount.

December
HM King Bhumipol Adulyadej's Birthday, 5 December. Join in the country-wide celebrations for the birthday of the world's longest reigning monarch.

Trooping of the Colors. See the splendor and ceremony of the traditional Trooping of the Colors at the Bangkok Parade Ground.
