In March every year Phangnga holds the Turtle Releasing Festival at Thai Muang Beach. Local people organize the seven day festival. The highlight is the release into the sea of plenty of baby turtles by the festival participants. Most of the turtles are raised by the Fisheries Department in Phangnga and some are born naturally on the shore of Thai Muang Beach.

The major purpose of the festival is to preserve and increase the numbers of endangered turtle species. This is an occasion for nature lovers and environmentalists to participate in an ecological activity with the goal of protecting marine life.
