Commencing in 1985, and sometimes called Patong Carnival, the Phuket Travel Festival has annually been arranged on November 1 on Patong Beach. The festival was designed to welcome the tourist season and to strengthen the good relationships among tourism-related operators both in the private and public sectors. A large number of stalls with a wide range of merchandise and food emerges on both sides of the beach. Many lively and interesting activities take place, including colorfully decorated parades, merit making in the morning, water sports contests, and a Miss Visitor Contest for foreign tourists.
