The Turtle Release Festival

Endangered SpeciesGreen Sea TurtleThe Turtle Release Festival takes place at Nai Yang Beach every year on 13 April, which coincides with National Fish Species Multiplication Day and Songkran Day. Its objective is to release young sea turtles at different locations into their habitats in the sea in an effort to increase the population of these creatures which has been rapidly diminishing. Generally, Songkran Day has been observed by Thais as a day to let free birds, fishes, tortoises and turtles, so the date is considered most appropriate.
