Among the most unique festivals in Songkhla and the southern provinces, the dove cooing competition is top of the list. The dove competition is based on the fact that most local inhabitants love raising doves because they like the sweet-sounding melodious song of the birds. The most famous area for dove raising in Songkhla is Chana district where visitors can see at least one dove cage at almost every house.

Due to the popularity of dove raising, the local authorities initiated the dove cooing competition. A competition unlike anywhere else, it has become well-known as a regional festival. The winning dove is judged by its melody, volume and pitch. Champion dove sell for very high prices, sometimes as much as US $12,000. Currently, there are several farms raising doves for sale. They are quite well-known among dove raisers in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
