From Bangkok 


By Car

Ayutthaya is just an hour’s drive north of Bangkok along the Asian Highway (Highway No 1, followed by Highway No 32). An alternative route can be taken from western Bangkok along the new Suphanburi Highway, which is one of the best roads in Thailand.

By Bus

Ordinary buses for Ayutthaya leave from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal at Morchit at frequent but irregular times between 5.40 am and 7.20 pm. The fare costs 32 baht.

First-class air-conditioned buses make the trip in one and a half hours every 20 minutes, between 5.40 a.m. and 7.20 p.m. The fare is 43 baht.

Second-class air-conditioned buses leave every 30 minutes from 5.30 to 6.30 pm. The cost for the one-way fare is 34 baht.

By Train

Trains to Ayutthaya leave Bangkok’s Hua Lampong Station every hour between 4.20 am and 10.00 p.m. For the return trip, trains leave Ayutthaya frequently from 2.20 a.m through till 7.29 p.m. The one-way fare costs 66 baht for first class, 35 baht for second and 15 baht for third class. The trip takes about one and a half hours.

The State Railway of Thailand organizes special tours to Bang Sai and Ayutthaya on weekends and public holidays, leaving from Hua Lampong at 8.20 am. The tour takes in a number of historical sites and temples as well as the Bang Sai Arts & Crafts Center. Food is included. The cost for the tour is 1,911 baht for adults, 1,316 baht for children.

By Boat

No public boat services make the trip to Ayutthaya or Bang Pa-in but several private companies organize excursions to both places. Prices for the excursions start at 250 baht per person for transportation only and go up to 5,000 baht for a two-day tour including meals, accommodation and tour.
