From Bangkok 


By Plane

There are 4-5 trips daily from Bangkok to Phitsanulok. Once there, the visitors need to catch local buses to Sukhothai. Call +66 2 280-0060, 628-2000. By Bus

It normally takes about 7 hours to travel the 440km from Bangkok to Sukhothai by bus. Departing from the Northern Bus Terminal (Kamphaeng Phet Road), there are four different destinations in Sukhothai where the bus will stop: Sukhothai (Muang District), Sukhothai Historical Park, Sawankhalok District, Si Satchanalai District (serviced by only a first class air-conditioned bus).

Types of Bus

By Train  

There is only a trip from Bangkok to Sawankhalok which leaves Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lam Phong) at 11.10pm and arrives at 7.05am.

The return trip from Sawankhalok departs at 7.40am, arrives Bangkok at 3.15pm.

The fare will be charged according to the class of service plus any supplementary charges from different options that the passengers choose.

However, there are no trains going directly to Sukhothai. The visitors have to catch the train to Phitsanulok and then take a local bus to Sukhothai which is about 50 km away.

By Car

From Bangkok, the visitors who have private cars can easily take the national highway route 1 (Phaholyothin Road) to the north. On the way to Sukhothai, this route will pass a number of provinces: Ayutthaya, a capital of Thailand after Sukhothai Kingdom; Saraburi with Lord Buddha's Footprint; Lopburi with the ancient Khmer temple; Chainat with its huge irrigation dam, Nakhon Sawan with the major rivers' convergence and Kamphaeng Phet with its attractive views of hills and rivers. At Kamphaeng Phet, take exit to route 101 to Khiri Mat and follow the sign to Sukhothai. The total distance is 440 km and it takes approximately 7 hours to drive meanwhile the visitors can have the chance to see the real rural Thailand.

On national highway route 1 at Km.50, take exit to route 32, pass through Ayutthaya until reaching Nakhon Sawan. Then take route 117 to Phitsanulok and find route 12 to Sukhothai. The total distance is 427 km.
