From Bangkok Getting Around

From Bangkok 

For the journey to Songkla, a quiet fishing town, it is better to take the bus or drive. Trains and planes go directly to Hat Yai. Songkhla itself has no landing field or train station.

By Plane

No flight operates directly between Bangkok-Songkla. Thai Airways International offers many flights daily between Bangkok and Hat Yai, where you can catch a bus for the short trip to Songkhla. Some flights stop at Phuket and Trang before landing at Hat Yai, so it will take 4.5 hours. The direct flight will take only 1.5 hours. By Bus

Taking Highway No. 4, several daily air-conditioned coaches and regular buses leave Bangkok for Songkhla and Hat Yai.

24 seat VIP air-conditioned buses leave the Southern Terminal Bus for Hat Yai daily at 5.30 pm and 6.00 pm, spend 14 hours getting to the destination in the early morning. Fare is around 760 baht. More information for VIP bus call +66 2 435 1200, 434 7192 and 435 1199.

40 seat air-conditioned buses Standard 1 (blue) depart Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal for Songkhla Monday to Sunday in the early evening spending 10 hours covering the 1,004 km. Bangkok to Hat Yai buses leave the station from 7.00 a.m. till 8.20 p.m. everyday. For more information call +66 2 435 1200, 434 7192, 435 1199.

Air-conditioned buses (orange) depart Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal two times a day, 8.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. These buses take 15 hours and arrive in Songkhla at 7.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. respectively. More information call +66 2 434 5557

Non air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal once a day, at 2.30 p.m., and spend around 17 hours on the road. For further information, please call Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal: +66 2 434 5557 to 8. Hat Yai Bus Terminal +66 74 232 404, 232 789.

By Train

The railway links Bangkok to Hat Yai. Both rapid and express trains depart Bangkok Railway Station or Hua Lum Phong in the early afternoon and spend 16 hours 10 mins to get to the destination. Regular trains leave Thonburi Railway Station as well. It takes 18.25 hours to Hat Yai. For further details call +66 2 223 7010, 223 7020 and 220 4334. By Car

Driving 950 km from Bangkok to Songkhla take the two-lane Highway No. 4 past Prachuab Khirikhan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat to Songkhla. The road condition is fair to good.
