Getting around
in Thailand is easier now than ever before. In recent years,
the Thai government has invested heavily in transportation
networks and basic infrastructure. Whether you choose to go
by plane, train, car, bus, or boat, you’ll find that getting
around is all part of the pleasure of a visit to Thailand.

Domestic travel
by air is the most convenient as it links all the major destinations
in every region. Getting there by plane is also very fast but
it can be a bit expensive for budget travelers.

Traveling by rail is a much more
leisurely and economical option. It takes longer to get there
but the journey itself is a rewarding experience in which you
can enjoy the fine scenery and see the amazing local ways of
life. Besides, it is probably the safest mode of transportation.
Travel by bus is reliable and
affordable and reaches all regional destinations. If you choose
to drive, especially from Bangkok to provincial destinations,
you will find that the road network is superb. You may encounter
some inconvenience with the lack of English road signs in remote
areas and small rural villages.
The Asian Highway Project is
an international transportation network designed to connect
major cities, industrial sites, ports, tourist destinations
and business centers.
Boat is not commonly used to
get around Thailand but it is widely used when traveling locally.
It is usually only appropriate for short distances along the
river. You may experience sightseeing by long-tailed boat on
the river or may cruise in the Andaman Sea in the south of Thailand
but not from Bangkok to other regions.
