Airport Information
Chiang Mai International airport is situated southwest of the city, approximately four km away. Traffic permitting; it is less than a twenty-minute drive from the city Center. The taxi fare is approximately 80 baht.

Chiang Mai International airport is the largest and most important airport in the North. Operating on a 24-hour basis, the airport accommodates over two million passengers every year. It is located at longitude 98 57' 58" and latitude 18 46' 18", some 300 m above sea level and spands an area of over 2.6 sq km. There is presently a single runway that is 45 m wide and 3,100 m long. There are six taxiways and the apron area extends for 85,996 sq m with space for thirteen aircraft parking stands. In addition to the passenger terminals, there is also a 9,500 sq m cargo terminal that has an annual freight capacity of 30,000 tons.

Various restaurants, snack bars and food stores providing local Thai food as well as western fast food are available in both the domestic and international passenger terminal areas.

There are four main foreign currency exchange counters on the first floor of the passenger terminal. In addition, a complete range of communication services on the first floor of the passenger terminal including:

There is a wide range of transportation available for getting between the airport and the downtown areas, including limousines, Chiang Mai International airport co-operative car rental service and buses. Thai Airways also operates a limousine service to all the major hotels and also a shuttle bus service to the Thai Airways office in the Center of town. Various mini-buses are also available from most of the hotels and will take those guests with reservations. Hotel reservations can be made at the airport terminal.

There is an airport departure tax of 200 baht (300 baht cheaper than Don Muang International airport in Bangkok) for all international flight departures and a 30 baht tax on all domestic departures.
