Airport Information

Chiang Rai International airport is located north of the city approximately 10 km away. It is less than a twenty-minute drive from Chiang Rai city Center. The taxi fare is approximately 150 baht. A tuk tuk to the airport from the city Center can be negotiated for about 80 -100 baht.

Chiang Rai International Airport is another important international airport located in the north of Thailand. Currently the airport accommodates over 526,000 passengers annually.

The airport is located at longitude 99 52' 59" E and latitude 19 57' 09" N, some 384 m above sea level and spans an area of over 5 sq km. It's spacious runway 45m wide and 3,000 m long and two taxiways can comfortably handle wide-bodied aircraft. The apron area extends for 28,800 sq m and has a total of four aircraft stands - two are contact gates and two are remote parking. The passenger terminal of 22,960 sq m can serve up to 1,240 passengers during peak hours.

It is thought that the potential for this airport's future expansion is quite good. Not only because of the recent increases in the number of tourists wishing to visit Chiang Rai province, but moreover as it could quite feasibly serve as an important hub for the neighbouring countries of Laos, China and Burma in the economic quadrangular zone.

A variety of airport shops selling a wide range of products and Thai handicraft are available within the passenger terminal departure hall area. These include souvenir shops, bookstore, fruit and florists, food and beverages as well as products from royal development project 3rd army area (under the patronage of H.M. the King) and the Mad Far Loung foundation.

The Thai Airways Restaurant located on the second floor of Passenger Terminal, offers fine Thai food - including authentic northern style Thai dishes plus a wide variety of international cuisine. Tour services and general tourist information can be obtained at the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) counter in the arrival hall. There are also several well-known car rental service counters on the first floor of the passenger terminal, including Avis and SMT.

There are three main foreign currency exchange counters on the first floor of the passenger terminal. In addition, a complete range of communication services are available on the first floor of the passenger terminal, including:
