The distance from Krabi city
to Phang Nga is about 86 km, Phuket 176 km, Trang 131 km,
Phattalung 193 km, Surat Thani 211 km, Nakhon Si Thammarat
233 kms and Satun 276 km.
Getting to the islands
Travel
to Phi Phi Islands can start from the piers in Krabi or Phuket.
The best time to travel to Phi Phi is from November to April.
There are three classes of ferries leaving from the Chao Fah
pier at Krabi’s Muang district.
Boats leave Chao Fah pier
at 9.30 a.m. and at 2.30 p.m. for non air-conditioned boat,
and 4.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. for air-conditioned boat. The
return trip is at 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m., the same time for
both class of boat. The journey takes about 2.5 hours. The
fare is around 125 baht for non air-conditioned boat and about
200 baht for air-conditioned.
For the tourist boat, which
leaves from Nang bay at 9.00 a.m. and returns at 5.00 p.m.,
call +66 75 637 152. The fare is about 670 baht.
Two boat trips leave for the
Lanta islands from Chao Fah pier at 9.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m.
It take about 2.5 hours to get there. Leaving from Bor Muang,
at 12.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. and 0.45 hours, takes only 45
minutes.
In monsoon season, May to
November, the ferry to Lanta from Chao Pah pier is not in
service. The traveler has to use the service at Bor Muang
pier instead. Buses run from the Traveler Service Center to
Bor Muang pier at 10.30 a.m. and 12.00 a.m. The distance is
70 km. Air-conditioned vans are available from Bor Muang to
Muang district at 8.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m.
There are two piers at Lanta
Island: in front of Lanta Island and at Ban Sala Dan.
To get to Pai Island or the
Hong Islands, visitors can hire a long-tail boat at Phra Nang.
Long-tail boats can also be hired for the trip to Por Da Island,
which takes about 30 minutes.
To get to Ngi Island, an island
in Lanta Island district, visitors can take a ferry at Pak
Meng beach pier, Trang province.
