Getting Around

In Rayong one can catch 'Songthaews' (means 'two rows or benches' which are converted pick-up trucks). The fare depends on the distance but cheap. local buses, as well as Songthaews, ply the roads to the mainland beaches.

To get to Ko Samet island one can catch the local bus or songthaew from Rayong to the small fishing village of Ban Phe. Ferries to the Samet island take about 30 minutes, and leave from one of three piers in Ban Phe at varying intervals (with increased frequency on the weekends) from 6.00 am to 5.00 pm. Tickets are available at Baan Phe pier and Nadan on Ko Samet. Speedboats will get you to the island much faster, but can cost 500 to 800 baht. Fishing boats are available for hire on the island. Avoid taking the boat in the monsoon season.
