| One
of the most dominant women golfers in the game today, Karrie
Webb has dominated the LPGA since her rookie season in 1996.
In her rookie season, Webb won four tournaments, and was named
Rolex Rookie of the Year, on her way to becoming the first player
in LPGA history to eclipse the $1,000,000 mark for single season
earnings. Webb's success continued in 1997, when she recorded
21 top-ten finishes in 25 events. In 1997 Webb amassed earnings
of $987,606, and was awarded the Vare Trophy for the lowest
scoring average on the tour.
1998
saw Webb continue her winning ways, as she scored victories
in two tournaments and finished with twenty top-twenty finishes.
Webb also broke the two million dollar mark in 1998, with
a third place finish at the Los Angeles Women's Championship,
and became the fastest player to reach that milestone in the
history of the LPGA.
Although
Webb amassed an impressive record in her first three years
on the tour, 1999 marked by far her most impressive season
to date, and ranks as one of the best single seasons in the
history of the LPGA. Webb won a remarkable 6 times, including
her first major championship at the du Maurier Classic, and
ended the year with 22 top-ten finishes. In addition, Webb
also set LPGA records for scoring average (69.43), single
season earnings ($1,591,959), consecutive top-ten finishes
(16), and lowest 72 hole score in relation to par (262 - 26
Under), and became the fastest player in history to surpass
the $4,000,000 mark.
Webb's
winning ways have continued into the 2000 season, and she
is currently the leading the LPGA in earnings with a whopping
total of $1,876,853. Webb is also currently the favorite to
win both Rolex Player of the Year and Vare Trophy honors.
