Throughout the history of golf, women have played
a significant role in the development of the game.
Unlike many sports, which rely on brute strength
and athletic prowess, golf is a game of technique,
timing and skill, making it equally challenging
for both men and women. Due in large part to this
fact, the women's game has experienced exponential
growth through the years, and now enjoys immense
popularity around the world. Perhaps the best gauge
of the popularity of the women's game is the growth
of the LPGA. Established in 1950, the LPGA has grown
in leaps and bounds, and is now an extremely popular
spectator sport, drawing millions of spectators
each year. The success of the LPGA has also sparked
a tremendous amount of interest in the women's game,
and this interest has resulted in a rapidly increasing
amount of recreational women golfers.
