Abhisek
Dusit Throne Hall
Located
close to the Vimanmek Golden Teak Mansion, the Abhisek Dusit
Throne Hall is a one-storey teak building now housing Thailand's
first museum of handicrafts. Abhisek was built in 1904 for
King Rama V in a combination of Thai and Victorian architectural
styles. The building demonstrates the influx of western ideas
into Thai architecture at the beginning of the 20th century.
Members
of Her Majesty the Queen's Promotion of Supplementary Occupations
& Related Techniques (SUPPORT) Foundation collected the
handicraft masterpieces. Nielloware, cotton and silk fabrics,
'yaan lipao' basketry, trays, handbags and other products
decorated with the metallic green colored wings of the 'malaeng
tub' beetle are featured among the collection.
The
Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall is open daily from 10.00 am to 4.00
pm with a 50 baht admission fee. It's free if you've already
visited the Grand Palace and kept the ticket.
