Ku Puai Noi
Approximately
79 km southeast of Khon Kaen, this site is the largest Khmer
complex in Khon Kaen, and is located at Wat That Ku Thong, in
the Puai Noi District. Often referred to as That Ku Thong, this
palace was distinctively constructed in red sandstone, laterite
and brick during the late 11th Century, and is encircled by
an immense laterite wall. Some of the more interesting and well-preserved
objects are the beautifully carved doors and the sanctuary,
which contains three brick prangs, a stone doorframe, and a
lintel depicting Vishnu in a reclining pose. Some of the palace
collapsed, but has since been renovated and is in relatively
good condition.
