Narai Nikayaram Temple

Narai Nikayaram TempleWat Narai Nikayaram, known locally as Wat Khong, is located in the area of Tambon Le, about 14 km from Amphoe Kapong. The monastery is believed to be the site of the town of Takua Pa, called 'Takola' in ancient times.

Housed in the temple are fine stone carvings of legendary characters: Narayana God, Laksha and Queen Sita from the Ramayana Epic. The statues show the influence of Hindu culture over Takola and the Malayan Peninsula and also indicate the origins and histories of Takua Pa District around 1300 AD, before the establishment of the Sukhothai Empire. The majority of archaeological experts believe that Kaling Kharat tribal people who once lived along the Indian Ocean Coast made the stone carvings.
