Suwan
Khuha Temple
Wat
Suwan Khuha is called 'Wat Tham' by the locals. The interesting
monastery is the most important historical site in Phangnga.
Near the monastery one can find a mountain containing several
caverns in both low and high locations. The most attractive
caves are: Yai, Chaeng, Mued and Kaeo Caves.
Tham
Yai, the largest of all, is located at the lowest level. One
can pass through Tham Yai to enter other caves. The cave is
20 m wide and more than 44 m long. It has a flat floor, which
is quite convenient to walk through. It has a ceiling shaped
like a semi-circle and the entire cave is decorated with earthenware
of various colors, sizes, and designs. As a vihara, Tham Yai
houses various sizes of stucco Buddha images and, most importantly,
a 15 m Reclining Buddha.
The
temple is located in Tambon Krasom. One can take Highway No.
4 for seven kilometers to arrive at Amphoe Takua Thung. Then
make a right turn and go another 1 km along the asphalt road
to reach Suwan Khuha Temple.
