Wat
Plubpla Chai
Wat
Plubpla Chai features original woodcarvings on its windows
and doors created by the master-craftsmen of Phetchaburi.
Every window and door in the rite hall ('ubosot') is elaborately
decorated with depictions of forest animals, jataka themes
and traditional Thai designs.
Next
to the rite hall, the chapel, or 'viharn', features about
40 big shadow-play boards called 'nang yai'. These were made
by Luang Por Rit, a former abbot of Plubpla Chai temple, around
a century ago. The last performance of nang yai in 1947 was
held for the funeral ceremony of another abbot of Plubpla
Chai Temple, Phra Phetkun Munee.
The
viharn is not always open to the public. Please ask for the
key at the residence of the current abbot.
Plubpla
Chai Temple is located in Phetchaburi town, at Damnoenkasem
Road, near Mahathat Worawiharn Temple.
