Sapan Hin
(Sixty Years Pillar Monument)
Located on
Phuket Rd. facing the sea near Phuket Town, Sapan Hin was
originally a land reclamation project that provided new land
now used for parks and public facilities. In the circle the
Tin Mining Monument, shaped like a large drill bit, is dedicated
to the memory of Captain Edward Thomas Miles, an Australian
who brought the first tin dredge to Phuket in 1909. Built
in 1969 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of tin dredging
in Phuket, the monument is also known as the Sixty Years Pillar
Monument.
