The Walls of the Old City

The City Walls are situated in the center of Sukhothai Historical Park in Muang Kao District. Bound by earthen ramparts, the north and south walls are 2,000 m long, while the east and west walls are each 1,600 m long. The walls contain four major gates named Sanluang in the north, Kamphaenghak in the east, Or in the west and Namo in the south. At these gates King Ramkhamhaeng provided a bell by which his citizens could call upon him to settle their disputes and dispense justice.
