
Chaiya
National Museum
Near
the entrance of Wat Phra Boromathat Chiya, Tambon Wiang, Amphoe
Chaiya, the temple houses the Chaiya National Museum. It is
a historical and archaeological museum. The museum exhibits
the local province's prehistoric and historic artifacts as
well as local handicrafts and a shadow puppet display.
The
national museum consists of two main buildings. The first
building exhibits stone and bronze sculptures discovered in
the ancient city of Chiya such as sculptures of the God Vishnu
and Bohdisattava Avalokitesvara, the Indian Gods. The other
building displays artifacts of prehistoric down to historic
periods from the Dvaravati, Srivijiya, Lopburi, Sukhothai
to Aytthaya eras. Art objects and several other crafts are
also on display here.
Admission
to the museum is 10 baht. It's open daily between 9 am and
4 pm except for Mondays and Tuesdays.
