
Phu
Kao-Phu Phan Kham National Park
Situated
approximately 56 kms from the town of Khon Kaen, past Ubolrat
Dam, Phu Kao-Phu Phan Kham National Park covers an area of
over 320 sq km, and extends into the neighboring province
of Nong Bua Lam Phu. Declared a national park on 20 September
1985, this park offers a mixture dipterocarp, deciduous and
evergreen forests, as well as several waterfalls and rock
formations.
Comprised
of 9 magnificently carved mountains, Phu Kao possesses caves,
fantastic waterfalls and several uniquely shaped rock formations.
In addition, Phu Phan Kham, one of the provinces most important
fish breeding sites, is also located within the boundaries
of the park. Encircled by a myriad of forests, Phu Kao-Phu
Phan Kham offers a plethora of recreational activities, such
as trekking, and camping in the forest. Additionally, this
park offers some prehistoric cave paintings, which date back
to the same period as the Ban Chiang archeological site.
