Lod
Cave (Tham Lod)
Tham
Lod, or Tham Nam Lod, is a 400 m deep cave with a wide stream
running through it. Formed by a small stream running through
a crack in the limestone surface, this cave is home to many
wonderful stalactites. In addition, Tham Lod is also the site
of numerous archaeological finds.
Inside
the cave, there are three chambers: Tham Sao Hin (stone column
cave), Tham Tuk Ta (doll cave) and Tham Phi Man (ghost cave).
Tham Sao Hin is the largest chamber, and houses a number of
giant limestone columns, some of which measure up to 20 m
long. In Tham Tuk Ta are some spectacular doll-like stalactites,
as well as prehistoric wall paintings, which are unique in
their use of both red and black colors, instead of only red,
as has been found in other pre-historic sites around Thailand.
Tham Phi Man is the site of numerous archaeological finds,
including skeletal remains and 10 different- sized dug-out
tree trunks, which are believed to have once been used as
coffins. To visit this chamber tourists must cross the stream.
At
the park center, there is an exhibition about Tham Lod describing
the origins of the cave, with a display of ancient items found
on site. Those who would like to cross the stream to Tham
Phi Man, or would like to reserve a tent for camping or picnicking,
can get more information from the park center.
