Phangnga National Park
Si
Phangnga National Park was founded in honor of His Majesty
the King to celebrate his 60th birthday anniversary. The park
lies in Khuraburi District, about 100 kms north from Phangnga
provincial town. It occupies an area of approximately 250
sq km.
The
national park is all rich forest, encompassing numerous kinds
of wild animals. A large variety of flora and fauna are to
be found within this forest. It is a great place for all kinds
of mountain activities including camping, hiking and the study
of tropical plants and trees. Among other places of interest,
Si Phangnga National Park is famous for its spectacular waterfalls,
and the three main attractions include:
Tam
Nang Waterfall:
About 4.5 kms by road from the national park, one can travel
on foot another 500 m to reach the beautiful, 63 m tall Tam
Nang Waterfall.
Ton
Sai Waterfall:
Another magnificent waterfall that can be accessed by road.
Before the entrance booth, one can take a right turn to split
off the road leading to the park. Then, you have to go further
on foot for 15 minutes to reach the waterfall, which spills
over a large boulder.
Tohn
Ton Teui Waterfall:
The waterfall is divided into two branches: Nam Tok Tohn Ton
Teui and Nam Tok Tohn Teui Noy. It takes around 3 hours to
reach both the larger and smaller waterfalls from the park
office.
One
can take the Petchkasem highway from Takua Pa District and
then go further north about 26 km to Ranon. When you reach
km 756 make a right turn and continue another 5 km to Si Phangnga
National Park. Accommodation is available at the park office.
