Checkpoint
Charlie's is located just inside Clinton Plaza. Go through
the lobby, between Deli France and Tivoli's, and it is down
a few steps at the rear. It has an open air bar, pool table,
dart board and a commanding view of the goings on around the
outside go-go bars. The genial proprietor is dedicated to
making it a fun place to hang out. He has recently expanded
into the space opposite the Crack House go-go and calls the
new beer bar Bush Garden, continuing the presidential theme.
Beer
is reasonably priced, at 90 baht, but mixed drinks are expensive.
Checkpoint Charlie is not a pick-up place in the classic style,
although one could certainly find convivial female companionship
there. It is more of a place where friends go to spend a fun
evening and have a few laughs while checking out the action
around the plaza. They serve a variety of Thai and western
dishes, and are particularly proud of their chili.
