Bangkok
abounds in large nightclubs and discotheques. Many of
the major hotels in Bangkok have international standard
discos such as Spasso in Grand Hyatt Erawan, Sparks
at the Emerald Hotel and The Salsa Club at the Pathumwan
Princes Hotel. Some - usually short-lived - discotheques
are huge purpose-built dance halls with the latest in
lighting and audio, and thousands of dancers, such as
Phuture and Dance Fever on Ratchadaphisek Road.
Sukhumvit
Road is always a good place to head for with its ever-popular
Taurus and Discovery as is the trendy area off Silom
Road with the Factory, Lucifer and Freeman. Wherever
you decide to go, you'll find prices very competitive
internationally, the atmosphere very relaxed, and the
dress codes very laid back or non-existent.

Dance,
No Drugs
|

By
and large, Bangkok's discos and nightclubs
are friendly and relaxed places, with casual
dress codes and no strict rules. You don't
need to wear a tie and jacket - jeans are
just fine - and usually the entry fee is
cheap by western standards, not more than
500 baht including a drink or two. Entry
is free at many more places.
The
age limitation is 18, and occasionally spot
searches are conducted at the door for weapons
and drugs. Police swoops also happen every
now and again to check for drug abuse -
usually following tip offs of Ecstasy use
among the trendy clubbers. Penalties for
drug abuse are serious in Thailand. The
best policy: don't get mixed up in drugs
in Thailand!
