The
Crown Royal, almost invisible next to the Rififi bar on Patpong
2, is one of the expat community's undying institutions. Resembling
the interior of a rather luxurious train carriage, the long
slender establishment has a beautiful wood bar, upholstered
seating, and draped ceilings.
Like
most places on Patpong, the Crown Royal has its own, very-polite,
attendant hostesses, but no go-go dancers. The place stays
open till 1.00 am but most of the action takes place right
after the offices close on Silom, around 7.00 pm. The bar
gets packed with local expats and journalists who come to
catch up on the latest bar-room gossip and get their dinner
(brought over from nearby Derby King restaurant). The Crown
begins to empty even before the other bars along the strip
get going, and it stays quiet the rest of the evening.
Recommended
for visitors who'd like to get in touch with the expat scene,
but totally unlike any other bar along the strip. Prices are
similar to the other ground-floor bars along Patpong.
