One
of the only bars on Soi Cowboy which features a live band,
Country Road is a place where one can enjoy both kinds of
music: country and western. Beer costs 85 baht and, unlike
most of the bars, it offers snacks and food. Service is provided
by Thai girls incongruously clad in western gear, and it is
one of the few places on the Soi where one could take one's
girlfriend without embarrassment. The bar is currently undergoing
a major renovation. It is located on the corner where Soi
Cowboy intersects with the heavily traveled Soi Asoke. (See
Map) Soi Asoke itself is undergoing a major renovation
because the Bangkok Subway is being built underneath it and
one of the main stations of the system is being constructed
just a few steps up Soi Asoke toward Sukhumvit Road.
For
those who just want to relax and have a few beers and something
to eat while listening to the band do covers of old country
and western standards, Country Road is a good place to tie
up your trusty steed and pull up a loose stool. The sister
establishment, Country Road II, on the corner of Soi 19 and
Sukhumvit a short walk away, has much the same atmosphere.
When
the action on Soi Cowboy slows down in the early hours of
the morning, many of the girls from the other saloons repair
to the upstairs bar at Country Road to listen to Thai pop
music and party with their boyfriends.
