The province of Loei is an example of the Isaan culture that prevails in northeastern Thailand. With its rich history and strong Buddhist traditions Loei, which was once a remote and isolated area, gives the visitor an opportunity to experience Thailand in an unspoiled and pure form.

History  

Legends say that the ancestors of the people of Loei were a group of Thai people who moved from Yonok Nakhon kingdom, in southern China, and settled the area. Loei was upgraded to a province in 1854, during the reign of King Rama IV.

The province maintains its distinctive culture highlighted by a number of Buddhist festivals.
