Welcome \ Travel \ Overview

Culture & Religion

The great majority of the people of Ayutthaya are Buddhist with cultural values shared by the other Central Plains provinces.

Historically, Ayutthayans are skilled in crafts and the arts. Today, handicraft products ranging from wickerware to metalware are still produced and sold throughout the province. The Bang Sai Folk Arts and Craft Center is the largest and most popular spot for handicrafts. Established in 1976 under royal patronage, the center provides training in folk arts and crafts to local farmers. Visitors can see the production of exquisite handicrafts such as fern basketry, artificial flowers, hand-woven silk and cotton, carved wood, miniature Thai dolls and Thai furniture.

Many other handicraft villages allow tourists to see how products such as Aranyik knives, miniature earthen dolls, sugar dolls, palm-leaf fish, pottery, carved wood products and Ramakien masks are made.
