Approximately
260 km from Bangkok to the northeast, Nakhon Ratchasima covers
20,494 sq km of the northeastern plateau. Its neighboring
provinces are as follows:
North: Chaiyaphum
and Khon Kaen
South: Nakhon
Nayok, Prachinburi and Sa Kaeo
East: Burirum
West: Chaiyaphum
and Saraburi
In 1995, 13.79%
of the province was forest area. However, the forest was reported
decreasing with only 11.01% left in 1999 due to over logging.
During
its three seasons-hot, rainy and cool-Khorat usually experiences
its hottest temperatures in summer with the highest temperature
of 42.2° C (measured in 1998).In winter, the lowest temperature
Khorat has ever experienced was about 10.8° C (measured
in 1993). Its average temperature for the whole year is around
27.1° C to 30.3° C.
