Beautiful
scenery, hilltribe culture, fascinating local festivals and
many unique sites surround Mae Hong Son. Due to the fact that
the province is bordered by Myanmar to the north and west,
Burmese influence is a very strong and obviously reflects
in Mae Hong Son's local architecture, customs, and handicrafts.
Even the provincial capital's temples such as Phra That Doi
Kong Mu Temple have Burmese influences.
Common to most other regions
with the exception of the deep south, Buddhism is still accounts
for the major portion of religious belief up to 77.72% in
Mae Hong Son. Christianity makes up 18.54% of Christian, and
Islam 1.47%. The other 2.27% falls into the variety of hilltribe
